In an attempt to start blogging again, I thought I’d start the new year off with a new tutorial – bokeh effect in Illustrator. I based my layout on this tutorial from Pixel 77.

To quote my all-time favorite literary genius:

World Cancer Day 2011

Today, February 4th, is World Cancer Day. Let’s stand for the end of cancer. Please visit Stand Up To Cancer’s website and learn more about World Cancer Day, and how you can show your support.

I have fought an aggressive strain of Papillary Thyroid Cancer for almost three years, and was only recently given a remission status. Every birthday I celebrate is a victory over cancer. I am also fighting for those friends and family members who have been touched by cancer. I stand up for them.

In honor of those who have fought and won:

Oliver Kaufman, Loren Hewitt, Margie Lechner, Al Bauer, Mary Gioia, Janet Hughes, Kevin Russell, Dorothy Hoffman, Arlene Rotter, Hans Nufer, Don Urban and Carolyn O’Brien.

In memory of those who succumbed to their battle:

Rich Cooper, Mike Young, Gary Jacks, Janet Brendel, Margaret Schmidt, Helen Ferguson, Elsie Urban and Marilyn Zimmer.

AND, for the continued strength to those fighting now:

Pam Russell, Ray Grabiak, JoEllen Bauer, Jennifer Blum & Jake Bartola.

…for Badonkadonk. Yes, it’s true. Caught this snap while heading to a client meeting in Westport today. I could not get my camera out fast enough. An old pal from high school sent me a few links with others’ photos of this dude. Apparently, he gets around town. Do your duty, people. Honk for Badonkadonk.

Japanese Orchids

…are totally growing along my fence. They’re very beautiful, and require no maintenence from me, which makes me love them even more. I have a black thumb, and kill everything I try to plant. This ultimately results in a smorgasbord for the bunnies and squirrels, so I rely on the annual wildflowers that come up naturally to “prettify” my back yard. These don’t last very long, but I sure do enjoy them while they’re here.
