Happy Mardi Gras!

To celebrate, I made this King Cake.  The recipe was introduced to me from my pal Purple Foodie.  The recipe is from Lottie & Doof. Very exciting!  Check it out here.

I conveniently forgot to put the lucky baby in (which, by the way, was really just a lame toy Snack got in a kid’s meal from Jack in the Crack).  So, I just stuck it in the middle.  Voila.

Decorating was never my strong suit anyway.  Ha ha!

Valentine’s Day – Chocolate Covered Strawberries

This has long been one of my all time favorite treats to make (and share!).  It’s super easy, too!!

Chocolate Covered Strawberries

Makes 20 medium-large sized berries (or a pound).

You will need:

1 pound fresh strawberries (washed and dried)

1 and 1/2 Tablespoons of Unsalted butter

1 Tablespoon of Light Corn Syrup

1/2 Cup Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips

Wash and thoroughly dry berries (berries that are still wet will not hold the chocolate).

Melt all together in small saucepan over low heat (OR, microwave in glass bowl for 90 seconds on high).

Stir until smooth.  Dip berries, covering 3/4 with chocolate.

Place dipped berries onto wax paper covered plate.  This prevents the chocolate from sticking to the plate once hardened.  Refrigerate until set.  ENJOY!

Happy Valentine’s Day from Slice of Lime and family.

Major props to The Purple Foodie for inspiring me with her yummy recipes and beautiful food pictures to document something I’m making in the kitchen.

Font Aid IV – A Call to Action for Haiti

I was so excited when I found out (via one of the typography websites I follow) that the SOTA (Society of Typographic Aficionados) was launching Font Aid IV – A Call to Action.  This particular version of Font Aid is calling all graphic designers and typographers to create a unique ampersand and contribute it to a font called “Coming Together.”  This font will be made up exclusively of ampersands (all submissions will be included), and will be made available for sale through several different font distributors.  The proceeds of the sales will directly benefit Doctors Without Borders, and, through them, bring much needed relief to Haiti.

I am really excited about this project and submitted this ampersand I designed today.  I can’t wait to see the finished product.  You can see some of the submissions on Typophile.com – designers are posting their creations in the forum section.

Helvetica Merchandise.

I saw this posted on How Design’s Blog this morning, and had to share.  For those in the design world, the love/hate relationship with the font Helvetica has been a longstanding one.  However, regardless on your stance on Helvetica, who can resist these clever cookie cutters?  For the typophile baker, it’s a dream come true.  Cookie cutter by Beverly Hsu.
